Rooted in Chicago’s Polish-American polka scene, Freeze Dried developed its sound beyond traditional polka conventions. Archival footage in American Roots Music Chicago features bandleader Ted Okrzesik Jr. discussing that evolution, placing the group within the city’s continuing musical heritage. (mediaburn.org)

Selections include “Seventh Yellow Sun,” “Ooh Baby,” “Dreams of You Tonight,” and “Altenstien’s Monster.” The album also features interpretations of the Grateful Dead’s “Bertha” and “Franklin’s Tower,” Billy Joel’s “Travellin’ Prayer,” and the Lennon–McCartney composition “Hide Your Love Away.”

A distinctive addition for collectors of Freeze Dried CDs, Chicago polka recordings, and contemporary Polish-American dance music.
