Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in Washington, D.C., in 1995, connecting through the Eighteenth Street Lounge and a shared appreciation for dub, jazz and Brazilian music. Those influences underpin the duo’s distinctive approach to electronic listening music. (thieverycorporation.bandcamp.com)
Highlights include “Marching the Hate Machines (Into the Sun)” featuring The Flaming Lips, “The Heart’s a Lonely Hunter” featuring David Byrne, and “The Time We Lost Our Way” featuring LouLou Ghelichkhani. Additional guests include Perry Farrell and Gunjan, bringing contrasting voices to the album’s layered sound. A strong choice for listeners who enjoy downtempo electronica, lounge music and dub-influenced grooves. (thieverycorporation.bandcamp.com, thieverycorporation.bandcamp.com)
